The Uncanny Boris Karloff

November 23, 1887 ~ February 2, 1969        Boris Karloff            How the Grinch Stole Christmas

An “icon of horror cinema”, Boris Karloff brought the sinister to every role, even as an animated green hermit in How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Joining a touring company because he needed cash, Karloff never intended acting as a career, and wanted to go into politics. Thankfully, he stayed with us in Hollywood and took on the role of Frankenstein’s monster, Imhotep in the Mummy and even Captain Hook on Broadway.  Truthfully, I don’t know where we’d be without him as the Grinch either, a role he accomplished only 3 years before he died of emphysema in 1969.

We’re so glad you didn’t go into politics Boris! Happy Birthday!
